Cherry first started in Orthotics in 1980 and was employed by the then Northland Hospital Board. She trained at CIT in Wellington, while her practical training placements were based in Auckland.
Cherry has worked in Whangarei mainly, with a couple of years in Greymouth in the late 1980’s, as the first female Manager of an Orthotic Service. Following this she returned to manage the Orthotic Service at Whangarei Hospital for the next 16 years. She is now back in a clinical role with some fabrication involved which is what she loves. Cherry is the Orthotic Service Professional Advisor on the Allied Health Advisors group and has recently been nominated to the Northland DHB Library Committee as the AHA representative. Cherry has been involved in the NZOPA from the time she started as a trainee and recalls her first AGM in Dunedin in the very early 1980’s. She is the current Chairman of ISPO NZ and is on the NZOPA Executive.
